A lot of people want a wide back. And why wouldn’t they? A wide back makes you look powerful and can help balance out your proportions if you have a smaller chest or wider hips.

But how do you actually go about getting a wide back?

The best way is to do a lot of back exercises that focus on the muscles that make up your back. These are the latissimus dorsi (or lats), the trapezius (or traps), and the erector spinae (or spinal erectors).

Some great exercises for building up these muscles are pull-ups, lat pull-downs, dumbbell rows, and barbell rows. Doing 3-4 sets of 8-12 reps of these exercises a couple of times a week will help you see some serious gains in your back width.

In addition to doing back exercises, you can also make sure that you’re eating enough calories. If you’re trying to build muscle, you need to be in a calorie surplus, which means eating more calories than your body burns in a day.

Finally, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Sleep is when your body recovers from your workouts and builds new muscle. So if you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re not giving your body the chance to grow.
